How to Choose Close [x]

Pillows

With so many fillings, lofts, shapes and sizes, the selection process can become daunting.  Following are some of the things you should consider when purchasing your pillow:
NOTE: Australian Health Regulations do not permit the exchange of a used pillow, so it is important you choose the right shape to suit you.

Sleeping Positions

As a rule if you sleep on your stomach, a soft density or low profile pillow will be the most suitable.  A Medium density and profile pillow will suit most back sleepers and a firm and high pillow gives complete support for those that sleep on their side.  We also offer a contoured pillow for those who require more neck support as it moulds into the contour of your neck.
As, for quilts, when buying a pillow it is important to first understand the fibres used in the various products. There are basically four categories of fill used in pillows

Latex Pillows

Made from the sap of the rubber tree, latex pillows are 100% natural and retain their shape for the life of the pillow.  The natural properties of Latex make it anti-microbial, low allergenic and resistant to dust mites, mould and bacteria.  Latex pillows are washable.

Benefits of a Latex Pillow

  • Resilient and long lasting.
  • Rubber perishes at a faster rate when exposed to sunlight, so lifespan of these pillows can vary depending on the care received.  In an ideal situation, all natural latex pillows can last 15+ years.
  • Aerated, well-ventilated interior dissipates body moisture.
  • Latex is hypo-allergenic and its anti-microbial properties inhibit bacteria, fungi and house dust mites - so it can be particularly beneficial for people who suffer from respiratory problems.
  • Washable - easy care.
Synthetic pillows are easy to care for as they can be washed in large capacity washing machines.  They are ideal for anyone sensitive to or allergic to natural fillings and are light weight.
Pillow talk stock a variety of Synthetic Pillows including:

Feather and Down Pillows

This type of pillow is well known for the ability to relieve neck and shoulder stress and strain.  Down comes from ducks and geese and is extremely light with superior loft.  As a rule, the higher the % of down, the better they are, down gives the loft and makes the pillow puffier.  The higher the percentage of feather, the firmer the pillow is.

Benefits of a Down Pillow:

  • Down and feather pillows offer excellent support
  • You can scrunch them around to get comfortable without fear of damaging them.
  • They have a softer, fluffier feel.
  • Down and feather pillows can be washed but regular shaking and airing will keep them fresh.

Wool Pillows

Wool rich pillows are blended with synthetic fibres to offer firm support.  Polyester is often added to give loft and strength to the wool fibres.  A wool pillow keeps the face cool, dry and comfortable.

Benefits of a Wool Pillow

  • Wool is a natural fibre
  • Non-allergenic,
  • Odourless
  • Allows the skin to breath.
