GSM;
GSM stands for grams per square metre and refers to the
amount of cotton that has been used in the product, the more cotton that
is used, the higher the GSM. The higher the GSM, the thicker and
heavier the product is. The GSM does not affect absorbency.
PLY
A ply is a layer or strand, for example 2 ply is 2 strands of yarn woven together
Long Staple Cotton
Supima and Egyptian are examples of Long
Staple Cottons. They are superior to other cotton because they have
fine, long fibres that can be spun to make softer, silkier and more
durable textile products.
Supima Cotton
Supima Cotton is the world`s finest cotton. It is
superior to other cotton because it has fine, long fibres that can be
spun to make softer, silkier and more durable textile products. The
Supima Trademark is the consumer`s guarantee that the product is made
from 100% American Pima Cotton. Pima cotton represents just 3% of
annual cotton production in the United States, therefore customers can
be guaranteed that their Supima purchase is not only of the highest
quality but is also exclusive due to its limited supply.
Benefits of Supima Cotton:
- Maximum durability
- Maximum absorbency
- Longer fibres means less shedding
Egyptian Cotton
Egyptian cotton, grown in the Nile River Valley,
is long fibred cotton that is spun into a fine yarn. The result is a
very lightweight, fast-drying soft, yet durable fabric. Products made of
Egyptian cotton are substantially lighter and more compact than those
made of other cottons.
Combed Cotton
Combed means the cotton has been highly refined
and combed to reduce the number of short, uneven fibres leaving the
longest finest fibres. This creates a much smoother and softer towel.
Carded Cotton
Carding is the first refining process of cotton,
which rakes out soil, seeds etc that may have been collected whilst
picking the cotton. The more the cotton is carded the finer it gets.
Combing is the continuation and refinement of the carding process.
