Tips for Machine Washing your Quilt

  1. Check Size & Capacity – Ensure your washing machine is large enough to accommodate the quilt you are washing without overcrowding. If your washing machine or dryer is not large enough for your quilt, we recommend using a commercial washing machine and dryer.
  2. Select the Right Cycle – Based on your quilt’s instructions, select the correct cycle type and water temperature.
  3. Use Mild Detergent – Opt for a gentle, fragrance-free detergent and avoid fabric softeners to avoid residue build-up.
  4. Rinse Thoroughly – Ensure all detergent has been rinsed out.
  5. Drying – Check your quilt’s care instructions for the best way to dry your quilt. If air-drying, make sure your quilt is hung in a well-ventilated area. If tumble-drying, make sure your dryer is large enough to accommodate the quilt you are drying without overcrowding.

  1. Wash in Bath Tub – Since quilts are a bigger item to hand wash, we recommend filling the bathtub with the recommended temperature water and a mild detergent.
  2. Submerge & Gently Press – When hand washing, it’s best to gently submerge and press the quilt. This helps clean the quilt without moving the fill, keeping your quilt just as comfy and fluffy.
  3. Rinse Thoroughly & Avoid Wringing – Rinse your quilt thoroughly with clean water until the detergent is completely removed. Gently squeeze out the excess water and avoid wringing to keep all fill in place.
  4. Lay or Hang Flat – For the best results, lay or hang your quilt out flat in a well-ventilated area.

  • Air it out – Hanging your quilt outdoors in fresh air and sunlight every month or so helps to remove moisture and odours, keeping your quilt feeling fresher in between washes.
  • Use a quilt cover – A quilt cover protects your quilt against dirt, sweat and stains. Since quilt covers are removeable, you can wash them more often reducing the need to wash your quilt too often.
  • Spot clean when needed – Treat small stains promptly.
  • Store properly – When not in use, store your quilt in a breathable cotton bag in a dry place to prevent mould and mildew.
