Slow Living 2022
As we begin to move past the chaos of the last couple of years, we’re focused on connecting ourselves to the moment. Creating sanctuaries that soothe our souls and ground us to the moment we’re in. We’re reminded of the importance of taking a moment. Taking a moment to be present and enjoy the little things, a moment to slow down. From this idea the slow living movement was born. Slow living is all about living life in the slow lane and being present in that moment. With the uncertainty over the last couple of years it’s no wonder more and more people are choosing to adopt this way of life.
Home is the perfect place to start your slow living journey. Who we are begins at home, home is where we rest and recharge, it’s where we feel most free to be ourselves. When we thoughtfully piece together a home based on our values and how we wish to live, our homes become so much more than just a space we inhabit.
Here are the ways we’re bringing slow living into our homes in 2022.
Curved & rounded furniture
Curved and rounded furniture is a huge trend in 2022. From bedsides to coffee tables, the elegant lines evoke a soft and gentle feeling. They add a cosy element to your spaces. Slow living is all about feeling at ease. Rounded furniture allows you easily flow throughout the space while sharper edges make this movement less fluid.
Rewilding
Rewilding is all about letting go of control, sitting back and relaxing. It’s about allowing nature to be more present in our homes and in our lives. While we can’t all live in a cabin in the woods, we can bring a little of the wilderness to us. From organic textures to an abundance of plants, the benefits are endless. Organic textures connect us to the outdoors, so choose linen sheets for your bed or recycled teak stools in your kitchen. Plants also assist with this connection to nature but if you’re a little short on time to care for your plants, artificial greenery (while not exactly the same) evokes a similar calm. They’ll also look amazing all year round.
A home for the senses
Our senses align us back to our bodies, removing the focus from our thoughts and grounding us to the present. Creating a home that has all of our senses in mind is the perfect way to become more connected with ourselves. Use natural textures from linen to wool, introduce small imperfections through décor with organic shapes and a handmade feel, strike a match and light a candle that grounds you in wonderful memories or reminds you of your favourite location. Give all your senses something to notice and experience. This is one of the easiest ways to create a welcome home with a relaxed atmosphere.
