Caring for your Mattress Topper

How to care for a mattress topper?

It is recommended to rotate your topper every few months to prevent uneven wear and to maintain its shape. Synthetic toppers should also be regularly aired, fluffed and plumped to maintain loft and plushness.

How to clean a mattress topper?

How to clean a mattress topper will depend on what kind of mattress topper you have. Each mattress topper will have its own care instructions, which should be followed when washing  and cleaning your mattress topper. To keep your mattress topper clean and make it easier to care for, add a mattress protector over your mattress topper.

How to store a mattress topper?

When storing your mattress topper it is essential to store the topper in a dry and dark environment to keep it in its best condition. Where possible, either roll or fold your topper and store it in its original packaging, in a natural fibre bag or wrapped in a sheet or mattress protector. If you cannot roll or fold your topper, we recommend covering it with a mattress protector or sheet prior to storage.

How long does a mattress topper last? (When should you replace it?)

While most mattress toppers last between 3 and 5 years, how long a mattress topper lasts depends on a few different elements, including the material it is made of, how well you maintain it and the frequency of use.

The main element that will affect how long your mattress topper lasts is how frequently it is being used. If it is being used every day on your bed, it will need to be replaced sooner than a mattress topper in a guest bedroom that doesn’t see much use. While this kind of wear and tear is unavoidable, caring for your mattress topper properly (regular rotating, airing, plumping and/or fluffing) will help you get the most out of your mattress topper.

To extend the lifespan of your mattress topper we recommend using a mattress protector to prevent a build up of dirt and allergens and to make regular cleaning easier. If you are noticing signs of wear and tear or are finding the topper no longer provides the same level of comfort and support it once did, it may be time to look at replacing your mattress topper.

Common Mattress Topper Terminology
