      Pillow Talk opens brand-new store in Burleigh

        Iconic Queensland homewares retailer, Pillow Talk, are this weekend expanding their bricks and mortar footprint on the Gold Coast with the opening of their brand-new Burleigh store.

        The new addition comes only weeks after the extensive and ultra-chic refurbishment of their flagship Robina store on September 15th.

        It has been a time of momentous change, growth and excitement for the business who have not only been busily refurbishing and opening new stores but have also launched a total rebrand, including new logo.

        Co-owner and Managing Director Heath Goddard is excited about the growth and investment widely occurring on the Gold Coast and how residents are looking to reinvent their homes into a truly beautiful haven.

        “It’s a tough time for retail as a whole but we see massive opportunity and potential on the Gold Coast and are very excited to capitalise on that. We’ve invested quite a lot in our Gold Coast stores recently and will continue to do so.”

        The gorgeous new 659m store encapsulates years of research done by the Pillow Talk team into what makes the most comfortable and enjoyable shopping experience for customers.

        Project and Design Manager Ben McCowan says the store’s look and layout have been constructed with the customer’s experience and comfort top of mind.

        “We recently underwent an extensive rebranding project and the cornerstone of that was ‘for the love of comfort’ so when we are designing new stores and refurbishing older ones the central theme of comfort is going to be at the forefront of everything we do. Coming into a new Pillow Talk store is now a complete sensory experience.”

        The new Pillow Talk store opens in Burleigh Central, next to Anaconda, located at 177 - 195 Burleigh Connection Rd, Burleigh Waters, at 9am on Saturday 20th October. There will be free coffee and cupcakes as well as a balloon twister and giveaways throughout the day, plus, 20% off full priced items for Club Comfort members for both days of the opening weekend.

        Iconic Queensland homewares retailer Pillow Talk are this weekend opening in the brand-new Skygate Home and Life centre.

        Located directly behind the Brisbane Airport DFO, the stylish new store heralds the opening of the new homemaker centre, which will be filled with other covetable home and lifestyle brands.

        The grand opening will be celebrated in style with free coffee between 10am and 1pm, giveaways and a massive 20% off storewide for ‘Club Comfort’ members.

        Pillow Talk co-founder and Managing Director Heath Goddard is thrilled with the new development and sees it as a massive step forward for retail in Brisbane.

        “The Skygate precinct has expanded dramatically and now gives shoppers the opportunity to find everything they need in the one place. We are very excited to be a part of that expansion and believe the new store will become a destination for shoppers,” says Mr. Goddard.

        The Skygate centre is indeed a destination as shoppers are known to come from all over Brisbane and beyond to experience the centre and the addition of a new homemaker centre will only increase the popularity even further.

        The new Pillow Talk store will be the first in Brisbane to be built with the brands new look and feel which promotes an air of comfort from the moment you step through the door.

      Pillow Talk - Robina Relaunch

        To showcase our stunning new look and feel, we hosted three exciting events at our brand-new Robina store. Our stunning new store features our incredibly comfortable new look and was fittingly styled with a gorgeous balloon arch from Tweed Heads Balloonery, theming by The Event Society, and a striking media wall and welcome sign, all adorned with our very own imitation flowers, giving the event a fresh, spring touch.

        To kick-off the festivities, on Thursday the 13th of September we hosted an exclusive media breakfast, attended by key influencers and media from across Australia. A gorgeous sit-down event catered by Kiss The Berry, guests were treated to a truly delicious meal brimming with fruity acai bowls, decadent pastries and freshly brewed coffee, just the way they like it. Happily networking, while gushing over our new spring range, croissant in hand, our guests were the first to see our new brand film, a heartwarming video detailing what comfort means to the people of Pillow Talk.

        The breakfast was hosted by 102.9 Hot Tomato’s Carla Tooma who sat down with an all-star panel featuring Pillow Talk’s Co-Founder and Managing Director Heath Goddard, General Manager Kate Spencer, Textile Designer Victoria Bishop, and The Block’s Kara Demmrich who chatted about everything from Pillow Talk’s humble origins, to our new spring collection.

      Chrissy’s 20 years of loyalty

        Chrissy Cobb, the bubbly, vivacious store manager of Pillow Talk Helensvale has just celebrated a milestone 20 years with the company.

        Chrissy was first employed as a casual at the Pines store in 1998; soon after moving to the Gold Coast from New Zealand. Chrissy then progressed into a full-time role at the Robina and Southport stores before being promoted to assistant manager at Helensvale. She was then further promoted to store manager in 2013.

        Homewares has always been a passion for Chrissy, who loves creating visual displays and being able to use her creativity to style spaces and help customers.

        When asked what she has enjoyed about working for Pillow Talk over the last 20 years she highlighted the importance of having a wonderful team of people to work with.

        "The amazing people you work with, the variety of jobs that you perform, the customer service and interaction, the opportunity to build displays and of course I love the products. Pillow Talk is a wonderful company and I have really enjoyed seeing all the changes and growth the business has had over the last 20 years. To this day, to still have Heath (Pillow Talk’s co-founder) actively in the business is amazing."

        Over her two decades with the company Chrissy has witnessed huge changes within the company, on the Gold Coast and in the retail industry and has some advice for those newer to the business.

        "You need to take change as it comes and look at it as a challenge. That’s how I have been able to adapt. You need to remember that the changes are there to make our jobs better and easier overall."

        Chrissy was celebrated in-store with flowers, a cake and a Flight Centre voucher with which she will take a very well-deserved holiday.

        "I will book another exciting adventure for myself and my husband or perhaps keep it to visit New Zealand again."

        With temperatures dropping to single digits, it’s time to get serious about keeping warm. Here are the expert’s secrets.

        Pillow Talk’s bedroom buyer Debbie Farrell has been with the company for over 30 years and knows exactly how to keep warm, even on those bitterly cold nights.

        "One of the easiest things you can do to keep warm is to put a blanket underneath your quilt. People will often add a blanket on top but that will restrict air reaching the fibres of the quilt and will actually have the opposite effect. Always put your blanket underneath your quilt."

        A quilt suited to your sleep style is also important for achieving cosy warmth.

        "Some people mistake heaviness for warmth and will still feel cool unless they feel a little weight on top of them. Wool is a great option for people who really enjoy that lofty warmth with an extra little bit of weight. Wool is also perfect for couples as it has temperature regulating properties which can absorb warmth and spread it evenly across the bed to keep both sleepers at a comfortable temperature," Farrell says.

        On the other hand, those who are looking for exceptional warmth but from a lightweight quilt should look for ones made from feather and down.

        "The higher the goose or duck down concentration in a quilt, the warmer, lighter, loftier and softer it will be. You also can’t go past a woollen underblanket or flannelette sheets for a little extra warmth in the bed during winter."

        When Pillow Talk opened in Toowoomba 30 years ago Russell Young was employed as the store manager, and now after three decades of service, he is hanging up his hat.

        At the age of 65, Russ, as he is affectionately known, is looking to spend a little more time relaxing and doing the little jobs around the house that he has been meaning to do for years, but he says it will be busy Saturday’s in the store that he will miss the most.

        "On Saturday’s all we do is serve customers. We don’t do paperwork or any of those other jobs, it’s just about serving customers and that’s what I’ll miss the most."

        Over the years Russ has seen an incredible amount of change in both the community and in retail, but he has been stoic in his commitment and loyalty throughout it all.

        "It will definitely be the end of an era," says Russ, but he is looking forward to still being involved in the store in a more casual capacity in the near future, after a short holiday.

        The challenge is now on for a new person to step up into the role of store manager, one that has been so treasured over the last 30 years. Applications are now open and anyone interested in taking over the role can see more information here:

        Of this year’s finalists, Lord Mayor Graeme Quirk says they are the strongest line up in the award’s 12-year history.

        Still completely Australian owned and operated by the two original families who began the business all those years ago, Pillow Talk now employs over 800 staff members and recently won an award for a Canstar Blue award for customer satisfaction with their pillows.

        Pillow Talk are humbled by the fact they have been able to be a part of the journey of so many Australians, from their baby blankets as a child, to decorating when they move out of home and even for their own children’s bedrooms.
