“We recently underwent an extensive rebranding project and the cornerstone of that was ‘for the love of comfort’ so when we are designing new stores and refurbishing older ones the central theme of comfort is going to be at the forefront of everything we do. Coming into a new Pillow Talk store is now a complete sensory experience.”

The new Pillow Talk store opens in the Skygate Home and Life centre, located at 11 The Circuit, at 10am on Saturday 6th October.

Pillow Talk - For the love of comfort
      • Allow us to introduce to you the new-look Pillow Talk – still the same high-quality, trusted Australian brand that Australia knows and loves, just with a renewed look and purpose.

After celebrating 40 successful years in business, the Brisbane-based retail stalwart has transformed the look of their brand, stores and very mantra, with comfort at the very essence of it all. At Pillow Talk, they do what they do for the love of comfort.

A stylish new logo, featuring a feather perched where the red ‘dot’ has been for the past four decades, signifies their commitment to the universal human truth of seeking, treasuring and sharing comfort.

At Pillow Talk, comfort extends far beyond physical manifestations such as a soft cushion or fresh sheets. It’s about feeling comfortable in your home, but also in your heart. It’s being comfortable in the knowledge that the company you are purchasing from is ethical, and that superior quality and fair price go hand in hand. It’s being comfortable having friends and family in your home because it’s a stylish and enjoyable place to be. Comfort means something different to everyone, but whatever comfort means to you, you’ll find it at Pillow Talk.

“Comfort. It’s such a simple, humble idea that stretches the breadth and width of humanity. I’m so very proud that at Pillow Talk, we can celebrate such a universal human need with the conviction and authenticity that a subject of this importance deserves.”

Co-founder and Managing Director Heath Goddard says that while there is a shift in the look of the brand, comfort has always been at the heart of the business.

“After going strong for 40 years’ we wanted to ensure we stay relevant to our loyal customers, but also inspire new customers with what Pillow Talk truly has to offer. We’ve always been passionate about providing exceptional comfort in all its forms and we will continue to grow on that for the next 40 years.”

In conjunction with the brand’s fresh look and purpose, Pillow Talk’s new spring collection has bloomed beautifully in stores.

With a strong emphasis on fresh botanicals, calming tones and natural tribal prints, the collection features an uplifting colour palette of blush pinks, charcoal greys and duck egg blues to create a product story that encapsulates comfort, style and serenity.

Top secrets to keep warm this winter
      • BRRR Did you feel that this morning?

With temperatures dropping to single digits, it’s time to get serious about keeping warm. Here are the expert’s secrets.

Pillow Talk’s bedroom buyer Debbie Farrell has been with the company for over 30 years and knows exactly how to keep warm, even on those bitterly cold nights.

"One of the easiest things you can do to keep warm is to put a blanket underneath your quilt. People will often add a blanket on top but that will restrict air reaching the fibres of the quilt and will actually have the opposite effect. Always put your blanket underneath your quilt."

A quilt suited to your sleep style is also important for achieving cosy warmth.

"Some people mistake heaviness for warmth and will still feel cool unless they feel a little weight on top of them. Wool is a great option for people who really enjoy that lofty warmth with an extra little bit of weight. Wool is also perfect for couples as it has temperature regulating properties which can absorb warmth and spread it evenly across the bed to keep both sleepers at a comfortable temperature," Farrell says.

On the other hand, those who are looking for exceptional warmth but from a lightweight quilt should look for ones made from feather and down.

"The higher the goose or duck down concentration in a quilt, the warmer, lighter, loftier and softer it will be. You also can’t go past a woollen underblanket or flannelette sheets for a little extra warmth in the bed during winter."

Pillow Talk is one of the only business in the country with a dedicated tester bed in each store for customers to try a range of quilts, underblankets and pillows before they take them home.

END OF AN ERA: RUSSELL YOUNG STEPPING DOWN AFTER 30 YEARS OF SERVICE
      • When Pillow Talk opened in Toowoomba 30 years ago Russell Young was employed as the store manager, and now after three decades of service, he is hanging up his hat.

At the age of 65, Russ, as he is affectionately known, is looking to spend a little more time relaxing and doing the little jobs around the house that he has been meaning to do for years, but he says it will be busy Saturday’s in the store that he will miss the most.

"On Saturday’s all we do is serve customers. We don’t do paperwork or any of those other jobs, it’s just about serving customers and that’s what I’ll miss the most."

Over the years Russ has seen an incredible amount of change in both the community and in retail, but he has been stoic in his commitment and loyalty throughout it all.

"It will definitely be the end of an era," says Russ, but he is looking forward to still being involved in the store in a more casual capacity in the near future, after a short holiday.

The challenge is now on for a new person to step up into the role of store manager, one that has been so treasured over the last 30 years. Applications are now open and anyone interested in taking over the role can see more information here:

      DESIGNED FOR KIDS, BY MUMS
PILLOW TALK OFFER NEW KIDS COLLECTION
      • With practicality and style in mind, Pillow Talk has today expanded their offering with the release of their brand-new KIDS by Pillow Talk collection.

Designed for kids, by mums, Pillow Talk’s new collection of kids quilt cover sets, cushions, rugs, lamps and more has been designed and curated by a team of in-house artists and is intended to grow with children from their first bed until they hit double digits.

A key focus of the collection has been on ensuring it can seamlessly fit into the décor of the entire home. With soft colour palettes and sophisticated yet fun hand-drawn prints, the collection appeals to parents as much as their children. Many of the quilt cover sets are also reversible to ensure they have the most longevity possible!

With six children between them, the collection’s designers Kylie O’Loughlin and Tori Bishop understand what parents and kids want from their bedroom décor and ensured each piece was durable, easy to care for, but also on-trend and fun. The collection is very well coordinated to make it easy to style a bedroom with multiple beds.

A standout piece in the collection, and the perfect gift for children and grandchildren this Christmas, is the Fairy Tale Quilt Cover Gift Box Set. The hand-drawn quilt cover took over two weeks to design and features an intricate story of fairies and forest animals. Included in the gift box set is a colouring-in poster and story book, written by co-owner and managing director of Pillow Talk, Heath Goddard, which tells the stories of the characters featured on the quilt cover!

As Australia’s favourite bed linen specialists for 40 years, Pillow Talk is proud to introduce this stunning new collection, just in time for Santa!

      40 YEARS OF TALKING PILLOWS
      • Pillow Talk, a stalwart of Queensland’s retail industry, are this month celebrating 40 years of serving Australians.

From humble beginnings with their first store on Brisbane’s Ann Street opening in April 1977 to 59 locations across the country and a thriving online presence, Pillow Talk has been one of the few Australian businesses to stand the test of time and continue to thrive in difficult retail conditions.

Still completely Australian owned and operated by the two original families who began the business all those years ago, Pillow Talk now employs over 800 staff members and recently won an award for a Canstar Blue award for customer satisfaction with their pillows.

Pillow Talk are humbled by the fact they have been able to be a part of the journey of so many Australians, from their baby blankets as a child, to decorating when they move out of home and even for their own children’s bedrooms. A visual representation of this journey can be seen to the right.

So what has been their key to thriving in a retail climate that has caused so many others to suffer? Always looking to the possibilities of the future, constantly adapting to the needs of customers and providing high quality products at a great price.

Pillow Talk’s General Manager Kate Spencer says not being afraid of change and going for opportunities even if it may be too “early” is the key to retail success.

"When we set up our website no one was doing that yet, but as they say, if you are not embarrassed by your first website when you look back at it – you started far too late. It is very funny to look back at that site".

Managing Director and owner Heath Goddard says there really is absolutely no substitute for quality.

"From day one we’ve always put the needs and desires of our customers first so it is a huge honour that we have been so well supported by our community for all these years."

"Our mission is to continually supply the highest quality products at the most competitive prices and we’re looking forward to supplying Australians with their favourite home linen and décor for the next 40 years, and more," says Goddard.
