5 top tips for Christmas tree decorating

Article Sections:

A centrepiece of the day and a style statement of its own, decorating the tree is a signal that Christmas is just around the corner. Take the stress out of decorating the Christmas tree and turn it into a fun activity for the whole family with our top tips on how to decorate a Christmas tree!

1.

Add your Christmas lights

Christmas Tree Styling

Once you’ve set up your Christmas tree and added the tree skirt, we recommend starting your decorating with adding the Christmas lights. By starting with the Christmas lights, it’ll make it easier to spread them evenly throughout the tree without getting tangled up with your decorations. Start at the bottom and work your way up spreading them evenly – the more lights, the merrier! To make it easier to see where is looking great and where needs a few more, make sure you have the lights on as you are spreading them out. Remember, there is no such thing as too many lights on a Christmas tree!

2.

Make the tree look fuller by adding filler garlands and stems

There’s nothing like a fluffy, full tree to create a beautiful base for the rest of your Christmas tree decorating – but how do you decorate a Christmas tree to look full? Whether you’ve got a fresh or artificial tree, we recommend using garlands and greenery fillers to make it as grand and lush as possible! Fillers can be anything, so you can choose from artificial floral sprigs to artificial greenery picks that match with your Christmas tree decorating theme.

3.

Now add your base decorations

We know it’s exciting to be able to hang up your favourite Christmas tree decorations first, but to make your feature ornaments pop we recommend starting with your base baubles – these are usually the ones you have the most of. These baubles should be in your primary Christmas tree décor colours, up to 2 or 3 different colours, and can be quite plain in style as they create the background for the rest of your decorations.

4.

It’s time for the feature decorations

Now is the fun part, it’s time to add your favourite feature ornaments! These are the ones you want to really stand out. Make sure to step back every now and then to check they are evenly spread out and put your favorites in the most prominent positions. If you have small children or pets that are likely to be tempted to steal baubles from the tree, put your favourites or any precious, glass baubles just out of their reach. Once all the decorations are in place, don’t forget to add your Christmas tree topper to top off all your Christmas tree decorations!

5.

Finally, the finishing touches

Fill the base of your tree with all your beautifully wrapped gifts! This is what make a Christmas tree truly feel finished; when you see the thoughtful gifts for loved ones, near and far, sitting under the tree patiently awaiting the big day.
